When to keep PNG

Keep the original PNG if you will edit the image again, send it to a printer, or upload it to a service that doesn't accept WEBP. If a WEBP ever comes out larger than the PNG (this happens with tiny icons), the tool tells you so you can keep the original. Need to go the other way? Does converting PNG to WEBP lose transparency?

No. WEBP supports an alpha channel, so transparent areas stay transparent.

How much smaller will my images get?

Photos and screenshots usually shrink by 25–80%. Very small icons may not shrink at all; the results list shows the before and after size of every file.

Is WEBP supported everywhere?

All current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (iOS 14 and later) and Android browsers display WEBP. Some older desktop software and a few upload forms still expect PNG or JPG.
